금리·인상·하락: Read Korean Economy Headlines (Numbers + Collocations)

If you can read Hangul but freeze at numbers, Korean economy headlines feel like code: 0.25%p, 3.50%, 2조 원

This post is a numbers-first cheat: you’ll learn how Koreans actually say the numbers out loud, and the 3 keywords that appear everywhere—금리, 인상, 하락—with collocations so you can parse headlines fast.

Today’s numbers (example)

Here are 3 “headline-style” numbers (made-up, just for practice) and how you read them:

  • 3.50%삼 점 오 퍼센트sam jeom o peosenteu (3 point 5 percent)
  • 0.25%p영 점 이오 퍼센트포인트yeong jeom io peosenteupointeu (0.25 percentage points)
  • 2조 5천억 원이 조 오천억 원i jo ocheoneok won (2 trillion 5,000 hundred-million won)

Tip: % is 퍼센트peosenteu, but %p is almost always 퍼센트포인트peosenteupointeu.
