TOPIK Score Calculator

Convert your TOPIK section scores into a grade — 1급 through 6급 — using the official NIIED cut-offs. Pick your exam (TOPIK I or II), drop in your numbers, and see exactly how many points you need for the next level.

This calculator is part of the Korean TokTok 4-stage curriculum — the structured free path from Hangul (Stage 1) to TOPIK 6급 (Stage 4). Use it to track your progress through Stages 2 (TOPIK 1–2급), 3 (TOPIK 3–4급), and 4 (TOPIK 5–6급).

How TOPIK grading works

TOPIK is a single test, but it has two separate exam levels: TOPIK I for beginners and TOPIK II for intermediate and advanced learners. Each is graded as a single total — you cannot mix sections from different exams.

Your grade is based on the total score, not per-section minimums. That means a strong reading score can compensate for weaker listening, and vice versa. The 6급 ceiling on TOPIK II is the highest grade in the Korean public testing system, equivalent to roughly CEFR C1.

Most universities and employers care only about the grade number — not the exact score. So the right strategy is to push past the next cut-off, then stop optimizing that exam and start preparing for the next.

Frequently asked questions

  • How is the TOPIK grade calculated?

TOPIK I has two sections (Listening + Reading) totaling 200 points: 1급 starts at 80 points and 2급 at 140. TOPIK II has three sections (Listening + Writing + Reading) totaling 300 points: 3급 starts at 120, 4급 at 150, 5급 at 190, and 6급 at 230. The calculator uses NIIED's official cut-offs.

  • What is the minimum passing score on TOPIK?

TOPIK I passes at 80 (1급); below that is 불합격 (fail). TOPIK II passes at 120 (3급). There is no separate per-section minimum on the standard TOPIK exam — only the total counts toward your grade.

  • Should I take TOPIK I or TOPIK II?

TOPIK I is for absolute beginners through high-elementary learners (CEFR A1–A2). If you can hold a basic conversation and read short texts, you should take TOPIK II — its 3급 starts where TOPIK I's 2급 ends, and a 3급 result looks better on a resume than a 2급.

  • Is the calculator accurate?

The grade boundaries are exact — straight from NIIED's scoring rubric. The numbers you enter must be your raw total per section (out of 100). The calculator does not predict your future score; it only converts a known section breakdown to a grade.
