Good vs too direct
A small cultural note from my first Korean workplace DM mistake: I once wrote the equivalent of “Send it now” in Korean, and the message didn’t get an angry reply—it got a long, quiet delay. Korean workplace tone often values leaving the other person room to say “I’m tied up” without losing face.
Too direct → better:
— Send it now. — If possible, could you send it today?확인했어요?hwaginhaesseoyo? — Did you check? — Could you check?
Template you can reuse:
— Could you [do the thing]? — If possible, could you [do the thing] by [deadline]?

Good vs too direct
Use this when you want extra respect or distance (cross-team, vendor, senior stakeholders), or when you’re following up a second time. It can sound stiff if you use it with close teammates all day; that “too formal” feeling is the main trap.
Too direct → better:

Next steps
- Pick the level first (relationship + urgency), then write the sentence.
- Add a timeframe every time:
1wol 3ilkkaji. - Match honorifics to the person: use
-시--si- and prefer주실jusil /주시면jusimyeon for workplace DMs. - Soften the push: start with
혹시hoksi or가능하시면ganeunghasimyeon when you can. - Keep it one ask per message, and if it’s a second follow-up, add a face-saving line like
- If you need a firmer nudge, make the deadline clearer—not the tone harsher.
