What it actually implies

Literally, 맛이 가다masi gada translates to "the taste has gone." In a kitchen setting, it’s the definitive way to say food is spoiled or fermented past the point of being edible. However, in K-dramas, it’s frequently used as a metaphor for people or machines. If a phone screen is flickering and dying, or if a person is acting completely irrational or exhausted, their "taste" (functional essence) has gone.

When it sounds rude (and why)

Using this for food you are served at a restaurant is a direct confrontation—it implies the chef is serving garbage. When used for a person, it is highly informal and can be insulting, as it suggests they are "broken" or "out of it."
